Guillotine shut-off valves allow isolating a section of piping.
They require less force to open/close the circuit than ball valves.

This allows working on a component (pump, heater, etc.) without having to drain your spa.
They also enable closing/opening a circuit to modify water flow (very useful for creating a drain circuit, for example).

Turn the handle to remove the safety to pull on the handle to open the guillotine valve.
