Technical characteristics

The ozone (O3) is generated by a chip of the ozonator using the oxygen present in the surrounding air. The ozone is an oxygen molecule formed by the combination of 3 oxygen atoms instead of the 2 usual atoms. Thanks to this extra atom, the ozone is the most powerful disinfectant of the world.

Because of its instability and its rapid decomposition in oxygen in normal conditions, the ozone can’t be transported or stocked. That is why it has to be made on the spot for an instant use in security. It remains in the air around 1 hour. In the water of your spa, it remains enough to purify the water (less than a second).

Although we often think about the oxygen as a disinfectant, it essentially serve as an oxidant. In a standard spa only running on chlorine, up to 90% of the chlorine can be used in reactions without any relation to the disinfection. The by-products of these reactions are mixed chlorine. They are the origin of eye irritations, odours and other unpleasant effects of chlorination. When used, the ozone oxidizes a major part of the contaminants, which is translated by the reaction of combined chlorine. Consequently, a major quantity of chlorine is available for the disinfection and a lower quantity is necessary for the spa care, which eliminate harmful by-products. Even if the ozone insures a certain disinfection, the use of bromine or chlorine is still recommended.
